Update – Outdoor Private Lessons now Available

Late Fall 2020 Update (11/27):

Group classes, including beginner classes, are still not possible for Fencing Club Asheville to run due to the surging pandemic numbers. We will look at this policy again towards the middle of January 2021 and see what is possible.

However, one of the head coaches, Bren McAneny, will offer private lessons in an outdoor setting starting immediately. These will be offered to both beginners and fencers with any level of previous experience. Please bring all equipment, including electrical fencing gear if you have it, if you are a beginner without gear we will work out a safe way to use the club loaner gear.

Details:

  • Cost: $20 per 1 to 1.5 hour lesson.
  • Time: any weekday or weekend between 9am and when it gets too dark to fence around 5 or 5:30, some lights are available but daylight is better.
  • Location: West Asheville in the coach’s driveway. Please contact for address.
  • Bring a Close Friend: Lessons will be given in groups of 1 to 3 people for the same price. To limit infection risk, the person should be a spouse, sibling, parent/child, roommate, neighbor, home school pod member or other person who you closely associate with already.
  • Safety Protocols: Cloth face masks required. Additional protocols will be explained, but the club’s policy is to use maximum caution.
  • How to setup your lesson: Call Bren at 301-537-0211, or email at FencingClubAsheville@gmail.com

Be safe, and keep practicing at home!

Update to the Update

It’s been two  five months, so we wanted to give a short update on the club’s status.

We are going to stay closed for the time being and will re-evaluate this policy in July September.   There will be no beginner class this summer and we will delay the fall beginner class to some degree.

Once we get closer to the beginning of September we will look at the USA Fencing guidelines for clubs and the State of North Carolina rules and guidelines for gyms and make a plan for re-opening.

For now, Stay healthy, Stay safe and keep practicing at home!

Classes and Open Fencing Suspended

Due to the current Covid-19 countermeasures, our classes and open Fencing are suspended starting Wed 3/18.

We do not yet have a date for when this policy will be reversed and Fencing will resume.  We will look to restart practice as soon as our location’s policy permits.  If you have questions, please contact me at FencingClubAsheville@gmail.com or by phone.

We are not yet postponing the 3/25/2020 beginner class, however it is likely that we will have to.  We will communicate by email to those RSVP’d about potential changes to the start date for the new beginner class (it will still be on a Wed).

Closure Policy

Fencing Club Asheville will follow the closure policy of Asheville City Schools and Asheville Catholic School.  If either of these closes we will stop holding practices until they reopen.  Until then we’re open every Wed night.

If you’re driving a long way, please check for cancellations before driving to practice.

While we’re open, the club has a no handshake policy and please stay home if you feel sick.
